“The restoration of the historic roof of Poplar Hill on His Lordship’s Kindness is extremely important for a number reasons, said John Walton, Jr., the Foundation’s President, “The first line of defense of any historic building against the elements is its roof. The current roof at Poplar Hill is over 75 years old, and it has been deteriorating for a long time now. If Poplar Hill’s existing roof were not to be replaced soon, this National Historic Landmark’s very survival would be in serious jeopardy. “
