Came in this morning to see All Star Roofing staff working on the kitchen wing of the house, along with the garden front. I started watching the old shingles coming off of the roof and preparations for installation of that beautiful Welsh slate. I’ve been enjoying the sould of the hammering, the buzz of the electric saw, the footsteps of the staff as they work on the roof. Noise is most certainly progress.

Mr. Galen Mene and other members of the Prince George’s County Master Gardeners are working to improve and maintain our long-suffering herb garden. We really appreciate the contribution of time and skills to this historic site.

Well, the men working on the roof have moved to the “garden front” of the museum to begin work on the other side of the roof. They removed the scaffolding from the front of the house and its now running up the back (or garden front) of the mansion.

Today is a nice, cool and comfortable day, and here is the important word - sunny. Its a good day for the guys to be working on the roof. It’s not hot. It’s not wet and rainy. And yes, they did work on some of those days when we had rain.

A new strong roof represents stability to me. It protects the mansion from the elements. Life continues and although its bricks date back to the 18th century, the structure will survive in the 21st.

It’s finally here. The process of restoring the roof of Poplar Hill Historic House Museum. Much thanks for the efforts and support of our public officials. the community, and the individuals donors that contributed to this effort.

Our Roof Restoration Announcement reception went very well. Now, we can watch the process as it moves along. Our contractor is Stephen Mccormick, owner of All Star Roofing, and our project consultant is Daniel Filipelli. Here we go folks! It’s encouraging to now see the scaffolding wrapped around the historic house. The Board of Directors and the staff have worked hard for this to become a reality.

“The restoration of the historic roof of Poplar Hill on His Lordship’s Kindness is extremely important for a number reasons, said John Walton, Jr., the Foundation’s President, “The first line of defense of any historic building against the elements is its roof. The current roof at Poplar Hill is over 75 years old, and it has been deteriorating for a long time now. If Poplar Hill’s existing roof were not to be replaced soon, this National Historic Landmark’s very survival would be in serious jeopardy. “
